It’s a scientific fact that stress hormones can downregulate genes and lead to long-term health issues. Human beings have the ability to activate the stress response simply through their thoughts. This means that our thoughts can potentially make us sick, but can they also make us well? The answer is yes. Short-term stress is tolerable for all organisms, such as when a deer is being chased by predators. However, chronic stress, when the stress response cannot be turned off, can lead to disease. By the age of 35, 95% of who we are is a set of ingrained behaviors, reactions, habits, attitudes, beliefs, and perceptions.

This means that even if we consciously want to be healthy, our body may be operating on a different program. Habits are automatic and unconscious patterns that are acquired through repetition. When we wake up in the morning and start thinking about our problems, we are essentially thinking in the past, which can lead to negative emotions and an overall state of being. Many people go through their daily routines without realizing that they are stuck in a program.
